Senior Analytics Engineer
About Acast
Since 2014, Acast has been building the world’s most valuable podcast marketplace, creating the technology that connects podcast creators, advertisers, and listeners. Its marketplace spans more than 140,000 podcasts, 3,300 advertisers, and one billion quarterly listens. Crucially, those listens are monetized wherever they happen—across any podcast app or listening platform.
About the role: The Architect of Insight
This is a key senior role focused on transforming raw event streams into clean, reliable, and accessible datasets that drive strategic decisions across Acast’s global business. You won't just be building pipelines; you'll be building bridges between our technology and our people—from product managers to business owners.
You will join a highly autonomous and expert team of data analysts and engineers. This small, high-impact group operates at the center of the organization, providing you with the independence necessary to design and deliver insights that directly influence global product and commercial strategy. You will play a pivotal role in evolving our modern data platform, ensuring every insight we generate is trustworthy, fast, and ultimately helps podcasters tell better stories and monetize their craft effectively.
While this role is remote-first, if you are based in Stockholm, you are always welcome to work from our vibrant office and enjoy the atmosphere whenever you feel like connecting in person.
What you´ll do
Data Architecture Leadership: Own the end-to-end design, implementation, and maintenance of data models using dbt (Data Build Tool) within our BigQuery data warehouse, ensuring high performance and cost efficiency.
Pipeline Orchestration: Manage and scale ELT workflows and pipelines, utilizing tools like Airflow (or similar orchestration frameworks) to ensure data freshness and reliability for mission-critical reporting and analysis.
Semantic Layer Definition: Define the semantic layer and ensure high-quality data access for end-users via BI platforms like Looker and Omni Analytics. You'll be the champion for consistency across all metrics.
Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as a critical, senior partner to Data Analysts, Data Engineers, Developers and business stakeholders, leading the translation of complex business questions and logic into scalable, production-ready data artifacts.
Data Quality and Governance: Implement robust testing, documentation, and monitoring practices to maintain the high quality and integrity of our critical datasets.
Innovation & Judgment: Experiment with new technologies, including AI/LLM tools (we know you’ve already checked out Cursor IDE), but apply critical judgment. You understand that while these tools are powerful assistants, a human engineer with initiative is still necessary—we promise, no Terminator models are in sight just yet.
Who you are
The Tech Stack & Experience
Expert-level SQL and Data Modeling: Proven ability to design and implement robust, scalable data models.
Deep dbt Experience (Mandatory): Significant hands-on experience using dbt (Core or Cloud) for managing complex transformation logic and documentation.
Cloud Data Warehouse Proficiency: Strong working history with BigQuery or a similar cloud data warehouse (Snowflake, Redshift, etc.).
Orchestration Experience: Familiarity with data workflow orchestration tools like Airflow, Dagster, or similar.
BI Exposure: Experience working with modern BI platforms (Looker, Omni Analytics, Tableau, etc.).
The Drive & Mindset
Initiative and Ownership: You are an autonomous driver who thrives on solving ambiguous problems and seeing projects through from concept to production.
People-Centric Analytics: You genuinely enjoy collaborating with non-technical users and understand that the highest value comes from empowering people with data, not just writing elegant code.
Curiosity and Skepticism: You have a passion for experimenting with emerging technologies, especially AI, but approach them with a healthy, pragmatic sense of judgment.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, capable of clearly explaining complex data concepts to a diverse audience.
Culture
Acast is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, national origin or any of the other wonderful characteristics that make us different.
